AllMusic’s Favorite Indie Pop & Rock Albums of 2010: A-M

The AllMusic editors are recapping the year in recordings with well over a dozen posts in which they present their favorites within specific genres and styles. Right now, on the AllMusic Blog, they provide a list of their favorite indie pop and rock releases of 2010. It was the usual bumper crop of great records this year; ranging from the chart-topping grandeur of Arcade Fire to the scrappy craziness of Zach Hill and many, many points in between. Such a big year, in fact, that we had to split the list in two. (Come back tomorrow for the rest of the alphabet.) Check the album pages linked in each post for reviews and samples, and make sure you also check AllMusic Loves 2010 — the editors’ personal lists of albums and tracks — as well as the overall feature on new albums and classical releases.

Right now, on the AllMusic Blog, they provide a list of their favorite rap/hip-hop releases of 2010. The genre was positively overflowing in 2010 — with rappers gracefully crossing over into pop, mixtapes made by everyone and their moms, and Madlib releasing a lifetime’s worth of albums (none of which were included, for the sake of space) — and this vastness was emphasized by two epic blockbusters courtesy of Big Boi and Kanye West. AllMusic’s Favorite World Albums of 2010

The Good Ones - Kigali Y' IzahabuThe AllMusic editors are recapping the year in recordings with well over a dozen posts in which they present their favorites within specific genres and styles. Right now, on the AllMusic Blog, they provide a list of their favorite world releases of 2010. World was easily one of the hardest lists to whittle down, considering the embarrassment of musical riches evident throughout the year (see our upcoming separate post on the excellent world compilations and reissues that appeared during 2010). With great new work from veterans to spare (ranging from African jazz maestro Mulatu Astatke to Brazilian stalwart Gilberto Gil), along with promising youngsters like Saravah Soul (a Brazilio-British collective) and the Good Ones (a trio of Rwandans who all survived that country’s genocide), world in 2010 enjoyed one of its best years in, well, years.
Check the album pages linked in each post for reviews and samples, and make sure you also check AllMusic Loves 2010 — the editors’ personal lists of albums and tracks, which will be published tomorrow — as well as the forthcoming overall feature on new albums and classical releases.
